Alan Young Kim is a 26-year-old Korean-American writer/director based in the San Francisco Bay Area. A filmmaker since the age of 12, he is the founder of CAP Studios, California's largest student-led film production studio, established at the University of California, Berkeley.
His debut feature, Land's End, won the Jury's Choice Award at the Chandler International Film Festival (2024) and was acquired by Freestyle Digital Media for U.S. and Canada VOD distribution in 2025. Produced on a micro-budget of just $25,000 – despite a production scope that should have cost millions – the film was shot in 22 days, with Alan not only writing and directing but also editing and sound design. The 133-minute feature, complete with an original 22-track score, was assembled and mastered in an industry-defying 28 days.
As a multi-faceted filmmaker, Alan thrives on bold storytelling and resourceful execution. His work is known for its nuanced, non-linear, and character-driven approach, often exploring themes of identity, fate, and the human condition. He is currently developing Fire of Kin, a high-stakes corporate thriller designed to push the boundaries of independent filmmaking with dynamic visuals, layered storytelling, and a sweeping score.
